Imbi's Christmas ... angel

She felt surprised,
then honored,
and priviliged
that she would be the first one
to tell the world
that a new baby was born.

And such a special baby.
She sensed great things were about to happen,
when she went to the people
that were camping in the open fields.

It was almost a shame
to wake them up
and confront them
with the freezing cold
of this clear winter night.

She had to smile
when she saw them awake
one by one.
They were in complete amazement,
got hold of each other,
and some faces
even showed fear.

"Don't be afraid",
she said.
"I know you don't often see angels.
Let alone guardian angels.
But I'm not something to be afraid of.
I'm the bringer of joy."

The last cloud
faded away
and the moon and the stars
seemed to shine brighter
far more brighter
than other nights.

"I bring you,
the happy message
that a little child is born.
And I'm sorry to say,
but I need your help.
The little boy
is born under such poor conditions...
He and his parents
need all the help they can get.
Please forget all the differences
with others
and join forces."

The people looked at each other.
How could she ask this?
They had been sleeping in the fields
for some weeks now
and no one cared.
They had even been told
to leave the streets
of the little village
when they went there
to buy what they needed.
Just because they looked different,
belonged to another religion,
or for some other reason.

The angel watched all these people
and knew they were about to make
the most important choice of their lives.
Now she knew
why God send her,
the guardian angel of the new soul.
People have far too much hatred,
are far too unforgiving.

"So you can't put your differences aside",
she said,
"for a little baby?
You can't even loosen yourselves
from those unwanted emotions
- those you dislike in others -,
when Gods sends an angel
to ask you to do so?"

The silence
was swept over the fields
with the wind.

"Is suspence and distrust,
harted and war
far more important
than what you all say
your religion teaches you?"

Clouds covered the stars
and far away behind the mountains
thunder was heard,
sounding low and bold.

Finally a young woman stood up.
She held a little bundle
in her arms.
Her young voice
sounded clear and high.
"I will go
and share what I have.
It is not much.
But the other mother
will know
that she is not alone
and has friends."

All where silent.

"Where do I have to go,
to find a baby
like mine?",
she asked.

The guardian angel smiled.
"I'll guide you,
with the light of the Star.
And other angels will come
to guide the rest of you."

And so it happened
long ago.
...
And so it can happen
even now.
We need not stick to pain
nor let us be led
into war.
For we all have peace in our hearts
and love
and compassion.
Like that young mother
that walked through the fields.
