Was it still in heaven
or was he already born,
when he heard
the soft angel-whispers?

Will we ever know
what the little angel
said to him
that first wond'rous night
before all the other angels
were sent to the world
to announce his birth?

It must have been
a poweful message.
People could already tell
that he was special
at his birth.

But even though
he would be called "King",
he was a tiny baby
in need of love and care,
able to soften
the smiles of all around him.

The shepherds came
and others
and they all felt inspired
by the innocense
of this little baby.

Each day
heaven sends us
little babies.
A promise
of a better world.

All babies
hear the angels whisper
a message to bring
or a task to perform
on earth.

Like the little baby,
born so long ago,
surrounded with love
in a cold winter's world.
